I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Toronto Metropolitan University. Previously (2014-2026), I was an Assistant (then Associate) professor at the University of Manitoba, where I led the Data Security & Privacy (DSP) Laboratory. I completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Concordia University in 2012, advised by Professors Mourad Debbabi and Benjamin C. M. Fung. I subsequently held NSERC postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Waterloo (2012) and at McGill University (2013-2014).
My research focuses on privacy and information security, with a particular emphasis on protecting health data. Over the years, I have investigated various privacy-related issues, including the private sharing of electronic health records for analysis, the protection of genomic data in cloud environments, and, more recently, the generation of synthetic clinical notes for machine learning applications.
My research has been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the Falconer Emerging Researcher Award in Applied Science (2021) at the University of Manitoba, multiple Best Paper Awards at leading international conferences, including ACM SIGKDD, and repeated top prizes in the iDASH Privacy Protection Challenges.
